Rice Balls, Cookies, and Dancing!

Wow, I'm behind on blogging... I guess I have been busy with school work, friends, and yep you guessed it.. Dancing!

Something that I have come to enjoy frequently is eating a rice ball for lunch.  What is a rice ball you may ask?  It's rice wrapped around your choice of filling and rolled into a ball!  My 2 favorites are the teriyaki chicken with avocado and the salmon with avocado.  There are various sushi shops within a 5-minute walk from campus, each with a different price and taste.  I think I have found my favorite shop with the best bang for your buck, even though it is the furthest away!  It is a quick and easy lunch to grab during a break between classes.  Often, I take-away my rice ball with a tiny packet of soy sauce and sit next to the Water of Leith that runs through campus.  It's the perfect break during a long day of classes!  When I have lunch with a friend (and it's a Tuesday), I like to go to Velvet Burger where we can get 2 burgers for the price of one!  And the burgers are large and yummy!

You know those times when you joke with a friend about some great plans like flying to the moon or starting a business?  Well about a month ago, my flat was joking about how we should start a flat restaurant because some of us always made such nice meals and desserts.  One week later, we had a Facebook page and cookie dough all ready for our opening weekend.  We sold Lemon Bars and Chocolate Chip cookies, and we sold out in less than 2 hours opening night!  Needless to say, the flat plans to continue selling cookies on weekends (Friday and Saturday), marketing to the large amount of students who have a craving for something deliciously unhealthy at late hours of the day! Any profit we make goes into our flat's bank account to use for flat events in the future!

As I have mentioned before, I joined a dance club on campus and it has been fun to leave my cozy flat in the evenings to go to dance- a familiar routine I did not expect to be doing while studying abroad!  This dance club, Otago Dance Association, is offering me the chance to perform and to choreograph for a concert in May!  I am so excited to be able to share some of my dance experience with people in a different country!

More posts to come soon! :)
